15/1/2012

We have reintroduced a booking system for those car booters who need to be sure of getting a pitch. You can still attend any of our events without booking by turning up on the day.

Sellers have two options; they can book on any Sunday in person for the following week or they can book online and confirm their booking by debit or credit card using their PayPal account.

Just take a look at our booking page for more details.

CHANGE OF NAME TO INDOOR CAR BOOT
21/1/08

From today we will be dropping the Jumbo name and will be known simply as Indoor Car Boot. Please note that we have taken the decision not to continue with our outdoor car boot sales for the foreseeable future. We will continue to run the indoor car boot sale at Charlestown.

END OF SEASON FOR OUTDOOR SALES
9/8/07

Please note that no further outdoor car boot sales will be held at Tregorrick Road, St Austell for this year. We will announce details of next years events in the Spring of 2008. Many thanks to all of you who have supported us this year.

RESTORMEL COUNCIL AGREE TO ALLOW JUMBO SIGNS
14/08/07

Some of you may be aware that recently our advertising signs for our car boot sales have been interfered with by local residents around the Tregorrick area. Things came to a head on Wednesday 8th August when Restormel Council placed "Cancelled" stickers on some of our signs in order to disrupt our events.

We met today with Mr. John Drew, head of planning enforcement at Restormel Council, to discuss this situation in the hope that we could come to a sensible compromise over the use of our "illegal" signs.

I am please to announce that Mr. Drew has agreed to recommend to the planning committee that we be allowed to use our advertising signs at a number of agreed locations around St Austell.

I am grateful to Mr. Drew and the planning committee for making this sensible decision. I look forward to seeing the same attention being given to the many other business's around St Austell (not mentioning any names), some of whom permanently display "illegal" signs on the public highways, as I am a great believer in fair play. So Ronald watch out it could be you next!!!

FOOT & MOUTH OUTBREAK IN SURREY
04/08/07

Following the announcement of a confirmed foot & mouth outbreak in Surrey on Friday, we have received several enquiries asking if the restrictions placed on livestock movements will have any impact on our outdoor car boot sales.

Although the field at our St Austell venue is stocked with sheep during the week, there are no restrictions at this time on continuing to use the field for car boot sales. We will continue to monitor the situation and remain in regular contact with the land owner. If there are any relevant changes to this situation we will notify you all via this page immediately.

SETTING UP & STARTING TIMES
02/08/07

Recently an increasing number of sellers and buyers have been arriving considerably earlier than our advertised starting and setting up times. This has been the cause of a lot of frustration and confusion for those sellers and buyers who have been adhering to the correct times.

So in the interests of fairness to all, we have adopted the following policy:

Sellers

Sellers will only be allowed to setup from the advertised setting up time. If you arrive earlier, you may have to queue outside the venue or park your vehicle until the advertised time.
At this time you will then be allocated to your pitch and allowed to setup.

Sellers must wait for the whistle to be blown at the advertised start time before they can begin to sell their goods.

Buyers

Buyers arriving early will be asked to park up and remain in their vehicles until the advertised start time. This will be indicated by the blowing of a whistle. You will not be permitted to purchase goods from any seller before this time.

We appreciate that some people may not like this strict policy,
and we are disappointed that we have had to enforce this,
but we do feel that it is necessary to ensure that
all sellers and buyers are treated fairly.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS POLICY
MAY RESULT YOUR EARLY REMOVAL FROM THE VENUE
AND YOU MAY BE REFUSED ENTRY TO FUTURE EVENTS

Thank you for your cooperation.

BODMIN CLOSURE
05/07/07

With all the bad weather recently we have been finding it very difficult to get our Bodmin car boot sale up and running. To avoid constant confusion for our customers we decided to suspend the sale until the weather settles down, and then reopen later in the summer. Unfortunately the owner of the venue was unwilling to agree to a temporary suspension and we have therefore had no choice but to permanently withdraw from the Bodmin venue.

It is a great pity that the owner could not see the sense in a short temporary suspension of the venue on Boundary Road as we feel this could have been a very successful event. The owner indicated  to me that he may try to run the venue himself so we wish him well with this idea and hope he enjoys standing alone in the pouring rain!

CANCELLATIONS
29/06/07

I am sure that you can appreciate that all the wet weather we have been experiencing in recent weeks, has been causing havoc with our outdoor car boot sales. We have been forced to cancel several of them often at very short notice, causing inconvenience and disappointment to many of our customers, particularly those who travel a long way to reach us.

I can only apologies to those of you who have wasted time and petrol money traveling to our events only to find them cancelled. I can assure you we do not cancel any event without giving considerable consideration to all the weather information available to us at the time.

To try and help you all, we have created a web page clearly outlining our wet weather policy and have also launched a telephone message service which can be accessed up to 30 minutes before setting up time on 0774 8325300 to inform you of any cancellations or last minute decisions to go ahead with an event.

I sincerely hope for all our sakes the weather improves very soon and we can all get back to what we all enjoy doing most in the great outdoors! Don't forget however that our Charlestown Indoor Car Boot Sale runs every Sunday rain or shine!

Regards
Ian

BODMIN CAR BOOT OPENS
7/06/07

I am pleased to announce that our first car boot sale at Bodmin took place today and went without a hitch. I would like to thank those of you who turned up to support us, sellers and buyers alike. Apologies to those of you who experienced difficulty with the cut grass, this has now been baled and removed. I am confident that this will prove to be a very popular mid week event and I look forward to seeing you there on Thursday afternoons.

RESTORMEL BOROUGH COUNCIL GETS TOUGH ON ADVERTISING SIGNS
29/5/07

Jumbo Car boot received an email today from Restormel Borough Councils Principal Enforcement Officer, John Drew, instructing us to remove our advertising banners from the ASDA roundabout in St Austell. We were warned that further use of "unauthorised" advertising could result in a £2500 fine!

Our Comment:

I feel very disappointed that Restormel Borough Council have taken this stance against our advertising as many of our customers have informed us that this is how they heard about us. Of course we do fully understand that Restormel must enforce the planning regulations. I only hope they do so in a fair and unbiased way, i.e. they inform all car boot organisers in the district to remove unauthorised advertising, including those which take place on Restormel property!

We will of course continue to advertise all our events in the local newspapers until such time as the powers that be find a way to prevent us from doing this!
